What does the service provide for end of life care patients and their carers?
The Macmillan Palliative Care Unit is an 8-bed purpose built in-patient unit on the Frenchay Hospital site. Patients are admitted from home, transferred from other wards within North Bristol NHS Trust or occasionally from other hospitals. The unit has an average length of stay of 10 days and patients are admitted for symptom control, short-term rehabilitation or end of life care. Most patients have cancer but patients with non-malignant disease are also admitted.

Referrals to the Macmillan Unit are made via the patients hospital consultant or the GP.
