Just In Case Medication

Sometimes it may be hard to access drugs in a hurry, especially at night or during weekends. You may therefore be given a just in case box which will contain a small supply of medications which can be left in the home so that drugs are available as and when required. This medication can only be given to you by a nurse or doctor.

The drugs contained within the just in case box can include medications to aleviate:

  • Pain

  • Nausea

  • Restlessness

  • Excessive secretions (noisy breathing)

There will also be some information sheets for the nurse or doctor, as well as an administration sheet authorising your district nurse to give you medication by injection if necessary.

The medicines within the box will have been prescribed for you and should not therefore be given to anyone else. They should be kept in a safe place out of the reach of children.

If you have any further questions regarding just in case medications, please discuss this with your doctor or District Nurse.
